Children's Physiotherapy

Provider: Cambridgeshire Community Services (CCS)

Location map

Description

Children's Physiotherapists help children achieve their maximum physical potential, help improve the quality of life for children and their families and support children to integrate into their school environment.

Children referred to the service have an assessment. For some, this includes a formal assessment, for others discussion with adults around the child and observation is sufficient to identify needs. After assessment, children receive a written report which is copied to parents and carers. Some children will receive advice and monitoring; a small number of children will receive ongoing treatment/physiotherapy support. Assessment and advice for specialist equipment may also be provided, for example, specialist seating and standing frames. The service also provides orthotics, working closely with orthotists in regular clinics. The team works to a target of seeing children within 18 weeks.

Eligibility

Children and young people aged 0 - 16, or up to 19 for those who go to special school, who are registered with a Cambridgeshire GP. Children and young people who live in Whittlesey, Yaxley, Wisbech and Peterborough will be referred to the Children’s Physiotherapy Service for their area.

Referral

Concerns should be discussed with your family doctor who can make a referral to the service. If your child goes to a special school, their class teacher can make a referral.
